When you think about Hong Kong, it’s not usually the first thing that pops into your mind – shopping and dim sum, maybe, but not swimming pools. Yet, it turns out, this city is loaded with picturesque pools – from the world’s highest pool (at 484 metres above sea level at the Ritz-Carlton) to a natural infinity pond on a mountainside and a whole host of public pools. So, if you’re ready to beat the heat and get your dip on, here are some of our favourites.
The high-rise rooftop pool at the Hotel ICON is one of the most unforgettable and relaxing places to do a few lengths – not to mention take in the view. With its iconic skyline and harbour view, there are few better spots to keep up with your fitness routine while enjoying the sunshine. Plus, once you’ve had your fill of laps, you can relax on the deck chairs and work up a appetite for some delicious food at the poolside restaurant.
Located on the 76th floor of the ICON tower in Wan Chai, this hotel’s swimming pool is not only the highest outdoor pool in the city, but it also offers some of the most impressive views to go with it. It’s a must-see for all visitors to the city and you don’t need to be a guest at the hotel to use it – simply purchase a WET pass to enjoy your swim and workout with a gorgeous view.
Despite the fact that it’s only opened for half the year, this pool is already one of our favourites. Tucked away in a little pocket between Happy Valley, Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, this quieter pool is still big enough to fit lots of swimmers without being too crowded. With indoor and outdoor pools, it’s well-suited to families with kids too and has a snack bar on-site.
A popular choice with the locals, this public pool has a great leisure pool area with water slides suitable for all ages to keep the kids entertained while mum and dad do some laps. Plus, it’s right by the beach so when they’ve exhausted all their energy, you can just hop across to Belcher’s Bay Park to run off any remaining energy.
This little gem is tucked away in a nook in the heart of Sai Kung and is perfect for young families. The pool has a small leisure pool area with water slides and animals to climb on as well as a larger pool for swimmers of all ages to cool down in. It’s also close to the MTR and a short walk from a train station so it’s easy for busy parents to get to.
