What is Domino?
Domino is any of a set of 28 small, oblong pieces (also called bones, cards, men or tiles) used to play several games. Each domino has a rectangular base, an identifying mark on one face, and is blank or identically patterned on the other. The identifying mark is often a number of spots, like those on a die, but some dominoes have no dots and are called “blanks”. The term domino is also applied to a sequence of events in which each event logically leads to the next.
The most common domino game is a simple two-player contest called Draw and Match, which can be played with a double-six set of dominoes. The dominoes are shuffled and placed, edge-to-edge, in a pile known as the stock or boneyard, and each player draws seven dominoes from the stock. Each domino is then laid edge to edge against an opponent’s stack so that the matching faces line up. Each player then counts the total number of exposed dots on both ends of the dominoes in his hand. The player with the lowest total count wins his hand and scores a specified amount of points.
A second type of domino game involves scoring off the sides of a first double. This is played with a double-six set and requires that all players make their plays off the top or sides of the first double to score. To do so, a domino is played touching an exposed end of an opponent’s tile and has to have a value equal to or greater than the number of dots on the exposed end of that particular piece.
Another way to score is by a chain reaction of dominoes, in which each domino causes an immediate effect on other dominoes. This is a popular game among children, with players trying to set up as many domino chains as possible in an attempt to create a spectacular display of domino effects. The most dramatic and exciting domino effect is the tumbling of an entire line of hundreds or thousands of dominoes, set up in careful sequence and brought down with just the slightest nudge from one domino.
To build brand loyalty and raise sales, Domino’s uses targeted Internet advertisements and direct marketing methods such as email marketing with a call-to-action button. The company also partners with sports leagues and events to promote its products.
Domino’s has a strong focus on localization, with menu items adapted to regional tastes and preferences. For example, in India they replaced pepperoni beef with spicy chicken sausage to appeal to consumers. In addition, the company has a wide distribution network to deliver pizza and other foods in the most convenient manner. This allows them to serve customers across the country without sacrificing quality and consistency. This strategic approach has helped the company to expand their footprint globally. The company is also exploring delivery by drones and robotics. These innovations are a part of their long-term plan to provide fast and efficient delivery of food to customers.
